SEOUL, April 28 (Korea Bizwire) — North Korea is actively pursuing the modernization of education evaluation methods by introducing artificial intelligence (AI) for foreign language tests.
Echo of Unification, a North Korean radio station that broadcasts propaganda towards South Korea, said on Tuesday that Pyongsong Normal University has created a foreign language exam using AI technology.
The radio station claimed that the AI program automatically set questions for the foreign language exam if teachers set the type and direction of questions in advance.
The operating principle of the AI program, however, was not mentioned in detail.
One possible way is that after saving a large number of questions in a computer like a ‘test bank’ system, the program can set questions in line with the direction and type set by the teachers.
If operating properly, such a system could contribute to improving the students’ proficiency in foreign languages since it allows them to solve frequently incorrect questions many times.
Echo of Unification said that the AI program chooses questions that the students cannot solve if they don’t fully understand what they have learned, adding that it also helps improve practical performance skills.
