SEOUL, Nov.19 (Korea Bizwire) LG Electronics and Google have joined forces to launch a Smart TV content application.

Cooperation between the two companies seems to on solid footing after joint marketing efforts for LG’s new OLED TVs.

LG Electronics announced on November 18 that it is bringing a new content application, Google Play Movies & TV, to its webOS powered Smart TVs.

The collaboration marks the first time that a Korean TV manufacturer features the Google Play Movies & TV application on one of its devices.

The app provides viewers with the opportunity to purchase or rent video content such as TV shows through a streaming service.

It also provides TV shows that are popular in the U.S., Canada, England and Australia. Content that is purchased or rented on LG’s Smart TVs will also be available on other devices such as smartphones, tablet PCs and personal computers.

Google Play Movies & TV divides content into categories such as ‘recommended movies’, ‘currently screening movies’ and ‘children’s movies’ so that users can easily search for the content that is of interest to them. Discounts and promotions for popular content will also be provided.

LG Electronics and Google have been implementing marketing strategies such as Google search, brand awareness provision through platforms like YouTube, and enhancing brand affinity since June to expand the sales of LG’s OLED TVs.
