JINAN, Jan. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — Inverted icicles have formed in pools of freshly drawn water at Tapsa Temple in Mount Mai, located in the southwestern county of Jinan, North Jeolla Province.
The mountain’s overall temperature dropped to minus 17 Celsius on Wednesday evening, creating reverse icicles in the pool.
Icicles normally point downward. These inverted icicles, however, are pointed upward, as the water in the pool grew in mass as it froze up, pushing the water out of the surface and upwards.
“Visitors come to see the mysterious upward icicles every winter,” an official at Tapsa Temple said.
