SEOUL, July 1 (Korea Bizwire) – Cheongyang County, which is famous for its hot pepper, announced that it successfully developed a new honey bee (Jangwon Bee) with superior ability in collecting honey and reproduction. According to the county, the bees collect 31 percent more honey and are 45 percent more reproductive than other bees.
The county tried to develop Jangwon bees since April last year, and with the success, it recently supplied 150 hives to 11 farms. Currently, 86 farms in the county are raising 14,000 hives of bees and producing 234 tons of honey. The county expects an additional 70 tons of honey to be produced with the new bees adding 1.3 billion won in profits annually.
