SEOUL, May 19 (Korea Bizwire) — Demand for high-end home appliances is rising with Koreans continue to opt to stay indoors away from the coronavirus.
South Korean online shopping site Auction sold 630 percent more four-door refrigerators and 165 percent more 86-inch televisions between May 1 and 16 compared to the same period last year.
Samsung Electronics’ Grande Washing Machine became the sixth-best selling product at another online shopping mall Gmarket. The Grande Washing Machine combines a 21 kilogram-capacity washing machine with a 16 kilogram-capacity dryer.
LG Electronics’ Dios Dishwasher, which ranked seventh, is designed to accommodate dishes for as many as 12 people.
At online retailer Auction, Samsung’s 75-inch UHD television and LG’s Dios four-door refrigerator (850 liters) ranked sixth and seventh on the sales charts.
“More people want bigger television screens and larger refrigerators, even if they’re too large for their homes, for better enjoyment indoors and to stock up on food,” Auction said.
“The so-called ‘pent-up’ demand is being felt here as consumers are giving in to their spending urges once constrained by the pandemic.”
