SEOUL, Aug.6 (Korea Bizwire) – A pilot project in which ER doctors view real time video footage of patients through smartphones and coach paramedics to provide better first aid treatment as they are transferred is expected to start during the latter half of this year.
According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare, nine emergency medical care centers and 19 fire departments from seven districts including Gyeonggi, Incheon, Chungnam and Gwangju will participate in the pilot project for a service known as ‘Smart Treatment’.
‘Smart Treatment’ is a service in which doctors at emergency medical treatment centers watch real time video of patients with a smartphone or tablet PC, and coach emergency medical technicians on appropriate treatment. Emergency medical technicians will be equipped with wearable cameras and headphones.
Before, medical directions were given over the phone, but with the use of wearable equipment, doctors can get a better understanding of a patient’s condition. Patients will be able to receive quicker and more accurate first aid before they reach the hospital.
The Ministry of Health and Welfare expressed their determination to improve the quality of first aid treatment. “Based on the results of the demonstration, we plan to improve the first aid system so that people can get better medical treatment.”
