KISA Developing Biometric Security Technology

SEOUL, April 10 (Korea Bizwire)The Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA) is set to accelerate development of telebiometrics security technology using bio-signals such as brainwaves and ECG, according to a statement on April 9.

Bio-signals have been praised as a new means of authentication, as their complexity means that they cannot be forged easily compared to existing processes such as fingerprinting and recognition of facial features, irises and veins. Telebiometrics security technology is centered on alternating the bio-signals detected by wearables into individual-specific information through a next-generation biometric algorithm.

The KISA expects that the technology will be also applied to individual health check-up devices. Bio-signal detection technology will also be improved through the development of authentication systems, and help the Korean ICT applied medical equipment industry earn a competitive edge.

The KISA will first merge a standardized bio-signal research group with representatives from ICT applied service providers, common carriers, biometric companies and university hospitals. The group will play a pivotal role in developing the technology starting from May.
