SEOUL, Jul. 11 (Korea Bizwire) – LG Electronics is contemplating supporting an employee’s pledge to donate 1,000 won for each new YouTube subscriber, a commitment that could lead to a contribution of approximately 10 million won this month.

According to industry sources on July 10, Choi Jung-hyun, a senior employee at LG Electronics who runs the YouTube channel ‘MZ Electronics’, posted a video on July 4 of himself using the company’s donation kiosk, promising to donate for each new subscriber.

Choi, who admitted to not consulting his wife before making the video, wrote in the description, “I hope many people will subscribe, and I’ll post proof of the donation later.”

The channel, which had only 38 subscribers when the video was uploaded, saw a dramatic increase. By 6 p.m. on July 9, it had surpassed 9,000 subscribers, potentially requiring Choi to donate around 10 million won.

As the situation spiraled beyond expectations, Choi expressed his surprise in a YouTube community post on July 8, saying, “I didn’t expect this to blow up like this.”

Choi announced he would tally the subscriber count until 11:59 p.m. that day, adding, “If the amount goes too far beyond my monthly salary, it might be difficult for me to handle alone,” effectively asking for assistance.

Upon learning of Choi’s predicament, LG Electronics is now considering ways to support him, ensuring that his well-intentioned donation doesn’t become an overwhelming burden.

An LG Electronics representative stated, “Once the exact donation amount is determined, we plan to find an appropriate recipient. We are currently discussing the basis for support and specific plans.”

Last month, LG Electronics installed donation kiosks to promote a culture of giving in everyday life, allowing employees to easily participate in charitable activities.

The kiosk screens display stories of families in crisis, children in need of meals, and injured firefighters, along with plans for how donations will be used.

Employees can donate an unlimited number of times by simply tapping their employee ID cards on the kiosk.
