SEOUL, Jan.21 (Korea Bizwire)Personal transportation means such as Segways, drones, and smart devices were increasingly launched in the domestic market last year.

An analysis of the suitability status evaluation of broadcasting communication equipment was conducted by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning.

Suitability status evaluation is a policy to test and check broadcasting communication devices and equipment to see if they meet the standards for electromagnetic wave emissions and interference.

Usually, the evaluation is conducted on products before their launch, or when a product is imported. Thus, the increase in the number of evaluations could be seen as an increase in the number of product launches in the domestic market.

The number of personal transportation means such as Segways, electric wheels, electric boards, electric scooters and gyro wheels showed the largest increase in the number of evaluations. Compared to the three cases in 2014, the number of evaluations jumped 28.7 times higher in 2015, to 86 cases.

In addition, smart devices such as smart watches, smart scales, smart body fat measurement tools and beacons (next generation short-range communication technology) jumped 3.2 times last year (114 cases) compared to 2014 (36 cases).

Drones and wireless controllers were evaluated 2.7 times more (239 cases) last year compared to the 90 cases evaluated in 2014.

The number of evaluations also increased among chargers (53 to 131 cases), 3D printers (26 to 45 cases), and wireless devices (818 to 980 cases).

Considering the industrial prospects, the ministry expects the number of evaluations of wearable devices such as smart bands, IoT products, high speed wireless chargers, and products related to smart cars will increase this year.
