SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Korea Bizwire)Trade Minister Cheong In-kyo visited Japan on Friday to meet his Japanese counterpart and discuss ways to expand bilateral economic cooperation amid global business uncertainties, Seoul’s trade ministry said Friday.

Cheong held the meeting with Vice Minister for International Affairs Takehiko Matsuo in Tokyo to share opinions on achieving tangible outcomes in economic exchanges, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The two officials assessed bilateral ties between the two countries were developing in a future-oriented manner amid revitalized exchanges since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ministry added.

They also agreed to work together to deliver joint messages on trade-related agendas globally.

The two expressed support for major international events set to be held in their countries next year, including the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea and the World Expo 2025 in Japan.

The meeting, meanwhile, took place as Seoul continues its efforts to maintain communication with key trade partners amid lingering market instability caused by Yoon Suk Yeol’s short-lived declaration of martial law last week.

On the previous day, Cheong met with Li Fei, China’s assistant minister of commerce, in Seoul.
