SEOUL, Jan. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co. is accelerating the implementation of an eco-friendly management strategy by establishing a section dedicated to so-called “low-carbon” meals at its in-house restaurant and launching a “PC Off” initiative.
According to industry sources, the global tech giant is scheduled to launch “PlanEat Choice,” a dedicated section for low-carbon meals, at the in-house restaurant in its Suwon headquarters in Gyeonggi Province next month.
Low-carbon meals are dishes that are designed to minimize greenhouse gas emissions during the process from food production to packaging, processing and transport.
This is a part of the eco-friendly management strategy that the company announced in September last year.
Eating low-carbon meals one day a week for a year has the same greenhouse gas reduction effect as planting fifteen 30-year-old pine trees per person, according to the study conducted by Johns Hopkins University (2018).
In addition, Samsung also launched a “PC Off” program at the beginning of this year. Under this pilot program, those who join the program will have their PCs automatically shut down after a specific time.
In addition, the company plans to replace all one-off disposable items such as takeout containers, spoons and coffee cups with multi-use items at all of its domestic workplaces this year.
