BEIJING, Sept. 22 (Korea Bizwire) — Yonhap News Agency, South Korea’s key newswire service, and the People’s Daily, an official newspaper of China’s Communist Party, on Tuesday agreed to forge closer cooperation in covering news.
The memorandum of understanding was signed in Beijing between Cho Bock-rae, managing director for content convergence of Yonhap News Agency, and Yang Zhenwu, president of the People’s Daily.
The preliminary agreement calls for the two news organizations to build a channel to exchange news content and other information.
Also, it paves the way for Yonhap News Agency and the People’s Daily to form a joint news team and provide support to their journalists in covering news in South Korea and China.
Among other areas of cooperation is a regular exchange of personnel, including correspondents, and commercial ads.
The signing of the agreement was held on the sidelines of a forum on promoting media cooperation in China’s infrastructure initiative.
China has pushed to build infrastructure and trade links with neighboring countries under the “One Belt, One Road” initiative.’
