Celebratory performances take place during the opening ceremony of the 23rd Hansung Baekje Cultural Festival at Peace Plaza in Olympic Park on Friday afternoon.
SEOUL, Sept. 23 (Korea Bizwire) –The Hansung Baekje Cultural Festival is happening at Peace Plaza in Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, starting on Friday and lasting for three days. Baekje was one of the ancient states of Korea, and it was part of the Three Kingdoms period along with Goguryeo and Silla.
They all had their capitals, and Baekje’s was in Hanseong, which is now Seoul. Baekje’s location in the richest part of the Korean Peninsula helped it become the first of the three ancient kingdoms to thrive.
The Songpa-gu neighborhood of Seoul served as the capital of the Baekje Dynasty for the longest period. In the Jamsil neighborhood of Songpa-gu, there are intriguing ruins resembling tombs and stone towers known as the Seokchon-dong tomb group.
Today, there’s a subway station named Hanseong Baekje station in Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, where you can visit historical sites like Mongchontoseong Earthen Fortification and Hansung Baekje Royal Road.
The Hansung Baekje Culture Festival is now in its 23rd year, and it’s a big arts festival where you can enjoy various aspects of Korean culture, from traditional performances to K-pop and dramas.
This year’s festival theme is all about how culture can connect people across distances, like rivers and oceans. The goal is to showcase the history of Songpa-gu, where Baekje’s story began, looking at its past, present, and future.
The festival’s main attraction is the opening ceremony on the last day, Sunday evening. During this ceremony, a talented artist will perform on a stage adorned with media art representing Hansung Baekje. There will also be a grand drum performance and K-pop shows.
