SEOUL, July 27 (Korea Bizwire) — A recent study has determined that the requirement of high duties and obligations is the primary cause of job stress that stimulates the suicide impulse among men.
In contrast, women experience extreme stress primarily due to irrational organizational systems.
A research team led by Jeon Sang-won, professor of psychiatry at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, announced on Thursday that it carried out a study to find the primary causes of job stresses that arouse suicide impulses.
The research team measured the suicide impulse and job stresses of 95,356 people aged over 18 who received a health checkup at the hospital during the period from 2012 to 2017.
Of the total, 3,460 answered that they experienced suicide impulses at some points during the past year.
The research team divided them into three groups: group A (between the ages of 18 and 35), group B (between the ages of 36 and 44) and group C (over 45 years of age) and carried out gender-based analysis.
The analysis showed that men in group A pointed to the requirement of high duties and obligations and inadequate job rewards as the main causes of job stress that arouses suicide impulse.
On the other hand, men in group B pointed to unstable job duties as the primary cause of job stress, in addition to the requirement of high duties and obligations and inadequate job rewards.
Women in group A said that irrational organizational systems and job culture were the primary causes of job stress that arouses suicide impulse.
