DAEGU, March 8 (Korea Bizwire) — The Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency said Tuesday it will install new traffic lights that are designed to support vulnerable groups and prevent jaywalking by showing the remaining time in a red light’s cycle.
This new traffic lights add to the system that displays the remaining time for the green light cycle.
The remaining time for the red light can be counted down from a maximum of 99 seconds.
In order to prevent pedestrians from stepping into the crosswalk before the traffic light turns green, the remaining time will count down only to six seconds prior to the green light.
This new traffic lights will be set up at 300 heavy traffic locations including public offices, traditional markets, and schools next to roads with more than four lanes.
