“Yebigun” Army Reserve Forces in North Chungcheong Get Upgraded Training Facilities

Cheongan’s training facility will officially open its doors to training on August 21.

NORTH CHUNGCHEONG, Aug. 18 (Korea Bizwire) – Journalists and military personnel rubbed shoulders at the new state of the art training grounds opened in Cheongan County on August 17. The 132,000-square-meter facility is the first of its kind that will be able to accommodate a full battalion of reserve forces and provide the latest in cutting edge technology.

With 13.9 million won invested in the endeavor, the Ministry of National Defense has made a concerted effort to improve its oversight on military matters. 

Indoor firing ranges, heated and air-conditioned lecture halls, mock-ups of urban areas for training purposes, trench parapets and a command center are all part of the facility. To ensure the comfort of the  reservists, a dining hall, shower stalls and storage space for personal items are included.

A park with a lake and other specially designated areas will provide “rest zones” where the reservists can unwind. 

The facility is under the jurisdiction of the 37^th Infantry Division. It is expected that additional facilities under similar designs will be opened in Chungju and Okcheon to serve the reserve forces in those regions.

Nationwide, the Army plans to take 200 battalion-sized training facilities and consolidate them into 40 facilities that can accommodate regiments (three battalions form one regiment).

The Commander of the 37^th Infantry Division, General Park Shin Won, declared that “civilian complaints about the noise from shooting drills will disappear” thanks to the newly opened facility. He further stated that training levels will improve due to the “introduction of assessment systems that will rely on technology”.
