Officially launched on May 3 of this year, CGV DRIVE IN Yeongdo was established in collaboration with the Busan Tourism Organization. The project involved transforming a portion of the Taejongdae Amusement Park’s parking area (spanning 10,122 square meters and accommodating 142 spaces) into a permanent car theater.

This innovative initiative was undertaken to reinvigorate nighttime tourism in the heart of the city. By repurposing parking spaces with minimal demand during the evening hours, the project seeks to create an engaging and enjoyable entertainment venue.

The seating arrangement within the car theater is organized on a first-come, first-served basis, guided by the principle of optimizing the viewing experience. Light cars and passenger vehicles with lower profiles are assigned to the front rows, while taller SUVs find their place in the back rows.

This thoughtful arrangement ensures an uninterrupted cinematic experience, allowing moviegoers to enjoy the film without obstructions.

However, with the recent increase in the prevalence of Compact Utility Vehicles (CUVs) with taller profiles, along with instances of taller cars within the light car category, challenges in seat allocation have emerged.

Distinguished as the inaugural automobile-exclusive theater in Yeongdo-gu, the Taejongdae Automobile Theater has a capacity to accommodate up to 122 vehicles in a single hall.

To date, it has presented a selection of eight films, including titles like “Dream,” “The Roundup: No Way Out,” “Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One” “Smugglers,” and “Concrete Utopia.”

A visit to a drive-in theater involves a distinctive experience where patrons drive their vehicles to the venue, settle into their seats, and tune their car radios to a designated FM frequency for audio.

Despite the prevalence of Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming platforms, the enduring appeal of drive-in theaters can be attributed to a sense of nostalgia and the romantic ambiance they provide.

This enduring charm continues to resonate with individuals who appreciate the unique allure of drive-in cinemas.
