Once the construction is complete, trams will return to Seoul for the first time in 57 years.

The Wirye Line, scheduled for completion in 2025, will run 5.8 kilometers from Seoul Metro’s Macheon Station on Line 5 to Bokjeong Station on Line 8 and South Wirye Station.

The tram cars will have electric cables with large batteries built into the roof of the vehicle to minimize carbon emissions.

The rails will be dug into the ground to minimize disruption of the city landscape, with low noise levels, the city said.

Each tram will consist of five passenger cars, for a maximum capacity of 260 people.
