SEOUL, June 16 (Korea Bizwire) — South Korean plant builder Doosan Enerbility Co. announced that it had signed an agreement with KEPCO Engineering & Construction Co. and Samsung C&T Corp. to invigorate mixed combustion technologies that generate electricity using green ammonia.
Under the terms of the agreement, KEPCO E&C will develop overall plant engineering technologies, including plant optimization.
Through mixed combustion with existing power generation fuels, green ammonia can help maintain existing levels of power generation while reducing emissions of greenhouse gases.
Doosan Enerbility, formerly known as Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co., will be responsible for developing a boiler for green ammonia mixed power generation and an ammonia supply system.
Samsung C&T will be in charge of importing green ammonia through overseas production and promoting related projects.
The three companies, in particular, will strengthen mutual cooperation in the production and use of green ammonia and will push for the gradual introduction of the fuel at the nation’s 1,000-megawatt power plants, aimed at achieving a carbon neutral objective by 2050.
Green ammonia is made with hydrogen that comes from water electrolysis powered by alternative energy.
At present, Doosan Enerbility is developing hydrogen turbine technologies using ammonia through business agreements with major companies such as POSCO and KEPCO E&C.
