SEOUL, Aug. 5 (Korea Bizwire) – The first batch of 100 immigrant workers will arrive in South Korea this week to serve as home helpers for families with children or working parents, as part of a pilot project aimed at addressing workforce shortages, officials said Monday.

The 100 Philippine workers scheduled to arrive in Seoul on Tuesday are the first group of immigrant home helpers introduced as part of the Seoul city government’s pilot project aimed at reducing child care and homemaking cost burdens.

So far, 422 households have applied to hire immigrant home helpers, with priority to be given to families with single parents, multiple children, working parents or pregnant women.

City officials said that the immigrant workers will first undergo a special four-week training program before starting services in Seoul on Sept. 3.

The pilot project will run until the end of February.
