DAEGU, Dec.23 (Korea Bizwire) – Officials from Gyeongbuk Province have announced the establishment of new research facility called the 3D Printing Manufacturing Innovation Hub Center in Geumo Techno Valley, Gumi, which is expected to start operations in February 2016.
The local government built a four-storey building within the Geumo Techno Valley area after attracting support from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to establish a local strategic point for 3D printing businesses.
When the center is completed in February next year, 19 billion won will be invested to develop a 3D printing lab with facilities to develop and propagate 3D printing technology.
The process of 3D printing refers to the manufacturing of three dimensional objects by layering materials such as metal using computer design data.
Since the technology can be used in the manufacturing of vehicles, electronics, aircraft, medical devices and IT devices, an almost infinite number of uses for the technology are expected to be developed.
The local government also attracted the support of the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning this year to build the Bio Metal 3D Printing Research Center in Pohang.
