SEOUL, Aug. 25 (Korea Bizwire)Hyundai Engineering Co. on Tuesday (local time) held a special ceremony to celebrate the completion of a water purification plant in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

This project involved the construction of a water purification plant with a capacity of processing 35,000 tons of water per day and a 29-kilometer-long water transmission and drainage pipe in the Lemba-Imbu area in Kinshasa, the capital of DR Congo.

The DR Congo Waterworks Corp. placed the order in 2019 to address water shortages.

Hyundai Engineering said that since the new plant is an essential infrastructure project for the lives of local residents, it completed the construction about six months earlier than the originally scheduled completion date of the first half of 2023.

The new water supply facility is expected to be used by about 400,000 residents of the Kimbanseke area, which has been suffering from water shortages.

The company is also preparing to take part in the second stage of the project to expand the water purification facility and establish additional water supply facilities.

The total cost of the project is being funded by the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and the project is expected to proceed in three stages.
