SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Korea Bizwire)With the Korean wave sweeping across the globe this year, South Korean literature has also gained worldwide attention.

The Literature Translation Institute of Korea reported that some 180 Korean books were translated into 29 languages this year with the institute’s support, the most since the institute’s establishment in 1996.

Of the 180 books, 156 involved foreign publishers that purchased Korean copyrights and applied for translation and publication support from the institute, which was 12 times more than in 2014 (13 cases) when the institute first began accepting applications.

Korean literature gained further attention after books by writers Yun Ko-eun, Ma Young-shin, Kim Bo-young and others won or were nominated for 12 international awards for literature or translation.

More than 200 Korean books are expected to be released overseas next year.
