YONGIN, Aug. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — A Siberian tiger, classified as an Appendix I endangered species, has given birth to five cubs.
The zoo of the Everland amusement park in Yongin, south of Seoul, announced that three female and two male cubs were born on June 27.
Siberian tigers are known to give birth to no more than two or three cubs at once, which makes the birth of five cubs quite extraordinary worldwide.
There are no more than 1,000 Siberian tigers alive, listed as an Appendix I species threatened with extinction under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
Tigers Geon-gon (6-year-old female) and Tae-ho (6-year-old male) also gave birth to cubs Tae-beom (2-year-old male) and Mu-gung (2-year-old female) in February of last year.
