SEOUL, May 27 (Korea Bizwire) — SK Telecom Co., in tandem with industrial automation components manufacturer Omron Electronics Korea Co., announced Tuesday the development of a robot designed to carry out quarantine tasks to fight the coronavirus.
The robot features ICT and automation technology including 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), autonomous driving, and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors.
South Korea’s leading mobile carrier explained that the robot is capable of measuring body temperature, using ultraviolet (UV) lamps for sanitation, and offering hand sanitizer.
It can also communicate with a main server in real-time via 5G networks.
If the robot discovers anyone with a fever, it sends related data straight to the main server to prevent the person from entering a building.
In populated areas, the robot asks people to keep enough distance from each other via AI technology. It also asks people to wear protective masks.
