SEOUL, Nov. 12 (Korea Bizwire) — KT said on November 11 that it would begin offering from the following day a new rate plan that gives discount without early termination charges. Previously all rate plans required users to pledge a certain period of time–typically two years–to get discount. If the user is unable to keep the promises and cancels the account before the required time, the discount amount must be returned in the form of early termination penalties.
In contrast, the latest rate plan has no such a requirement for the minimum length of time during which the subscriber has to maintain her account and instead offers a discount rate regardless of the length of time the user stays with company. For example, users typically get a discount of 16,000 won a month from 67,000 won if they sign up for a two-year plan. From now on, any subscriber can get the same rate of 51,000 won a month without the minimum-length requirement and termination charge.
Kim Kook-hyun, head of KT’s marketing strategy division, said, “We came up with the new simplified plan as a way to relieve customer concerns after the implementation of the law to improve the mobile handset retail structure and increase actual benefits to our customers.”
