SEOUL, Korea, Mar 24 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Electronics will launch two 10-watt “smart light bulb” models–soft white and daylight bulb color–that can be used with smart devices such as the smartphone. This is the first time smart light bulbs are marketed in Korea.
The smart lighting devices can save electricity up to 80 percent comparing to same-class incandescent lamps and are long-lasting up to ten years with 5 hours of use a day. The devices can be controlled by mobile phones or tablets with an app installed in them. LG’s smart light bulbs are operable on latest smart devices with Android 4.3 or iOS 6.0 or up and Bluetooth 4.0.
The user can turn the light on or off with a simple touch of the smartphone without getting up. A gentle shake of the smartphone can dim the light and one can set it up like an alarm clock so that she can wake up on the brightening light. The smartphone can be linked with the smart light bulb through the app so that incoming calls can flash the light and the user won’t miss the phone call.
As the new models are connected with the smartphone through Bluetooth, there is no need for a Wi-Fi access point or gateway. The light bulbs can be replaced with existing 60-watt incandescent lamps. The price is set at 35,000 won, which is much more expensive than any other lighting devices such as fluorescent bulbs or compact fluorescent bulbs. Given the durability and electricity savings, the new devices can pay themselves in the long run.
