SEOUL, Aug. 27 (Korea Bizwire) — LG Uplus, Korea’s top-three mobile telecom operator, said on August 26 that it has begun commercial service of “U+ NaviReal,” the world’s first video-type navigator. The users of the existing app can get an update of the service while those new users can download the app from U+ Store or Google Play Store.
The most notable feature of U+ NaviReal is that it shows real roadview. For example, as the car approaches 500 meters ahead of a junction, the navigator begins to show the crossing in real video view. At 200 meters before the crossing, the video is slowly zoomed in. As the images are filmed in 18-megapixel ultra-HD digital cameras, the navigator can support the industry-best resolution of 5184×3456.
The service will be available for most crowded intersections in Seoul, including those in Seoul Station, City Hall, and Namdaemun. It will then be expanded steadily to other locations within the metropolitan area. In the future, the video view will be available for major highway exits and interchanges.
Choi Jeong-woon, senior manager with LG Uplus in charge of LBS business, said, “Any motorist must have experienced confusion on crowded intersections. As the service provides actual video views of the crossing, the driver can move about with confidence.”
