SEOUL, Jan. 3 (Korea Bizwire)The military has deployed a new surveillance system using artificial intelligence technology at an eastern front-line unit, the state arms procurement agency said Friday, as the military seeks to harness the advanced technology to better deter North Korean threats.

The new system deployed at the Army’s 22nd Infantry Division incorporates AI technology to analyze surveillance footage, enabling the military to minimize false alarms and carry out a more effective surveillance operation, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said.

The system is also equipped with enhanced detection capabilities that allow the military to more effectively conduct surveillance activities both day and night regardless of weather circumstances, DAPA added.

As part of efforts to make a slimmer and smarter military based on AI and other cutting-edge technologies, the defense ministry launched a research center overseeing AI development in the defense sector last year.
