SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Korea Bizwire)The military manpower agency said Thursday it will strengthen legal compliance education for social service agents after BTS member Suga’s drunk-driving incident on an electric scooter earlier this week.

On Tuesday night, the 31-year-old, who is currently serving his mandatory military service as a social agent, was booked and questioned by police after he fell off an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol in central Seoul.

Suga has since apologized for the incident, in which no one was injured.

The Military Manpower Administration overseeing social service personnel said the BTS member had driven under the influence of alcohol after work hours, and he will be punished according to the Road Traffic Act.

“The Military Manpower Administration and service facilities will strengthen education to ensure that social service agents follow the law during their service period, and will closely manage and oversee the agents through service guidance officers,” it said in a statement.

Suga has been serving as a social service agent, an alternative form of military service in South Korea, since September last year. He is scheduled to be discharged in June next year.

All able-bodied South Korean men are required to serve at least 18 months in the military in a country facing constant security threats from North Korea.
