SEOUL, Nov. 7 (Korea Bizwire) – A recent study has revealed that approximately 8 out of 10 parents hold a negative attitude towards COVID-19 vaccination for their children.
Conducted by a research team led by professor Shin Ju-young from Sungkyunkwan University’s School of Pharmacy, the study surveyed 3,011 parents with children between the ages of five and eleven across the country from November to December 2022 to gauge their perceptions of COVID-19 vaccinations.
The study’s findings were disseminated through the international academic journal ‘Journal of Korean Medical Science,’ published by the Korean Academy of Medical Sciences.
According to the research team, 82.5 percent of the 3,011 respondents displayed a negative attitude towards COVID-19 vaccinations for their children, either hesitating or outright refusing to have their children vaccinated against COVID-19.
Among these parents, 49.8 percent, or 1,236 individuals, categorically rejected COVID-19 vaccinations for their children, while 47.3 percent, or 1,174 parents, expressed hesitancy, stating that they would wait and observe the situation. The remaining 2.9 percent, or 73 parents, mentioned that their children had received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccinations but would not receive the second dose.
Of the 2,483 parents with a negative attitude towards COVID-19 vaccinations, 68.1 percent were women (1,691), and 83.6 percent, or 2,075, lived in non-metropolitan areas.
At 72 percent, more than two-thirds of them reported having previously been diagnosed with a COVID-19 infection. Additionally, 76.3 percent, or 1,895 parents, disclosed that their children had experienced a COVID-19 diagnosis.
