SEOUL, Dec. 24 (Korea Bizwire) – With the omicron variant of the novel coronavirus spreading rapidly worldwide, many daycare centers are canceling Christmas events, celebrating the holidays ‘without Santa Claus’.
A daycare center in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul recently canceled a Santa Claus event, which used to be an annual tradition in which employees or volunteers dressed up as Santa to give away gifts to children.
“Every year, we used to have Santa come to our daycare center to take photos and share holiday messages with the children. This year, though, we just got a letter that Santa won’t be coming because of COVID-19,” said a parent living in Seoul’s Dongdaemun District.
Some centers have replaced the original event with teachers dressing up as Santa to visit each daycare center and distribute gifts to children.
On online communities and second-hand transaction platforms, a number of posts were either looking for people willing to dress up as Santa and visit their home or volunteering to do so.
