SEOUL, Jun. 29 (Korea Bizwire)A recent study claims that the quality of life of Koreans has fallen in terms of family and communal living.

According to Statistics Korea, an analysis of quality of life evaluations revealed that the composite index for the quality of life in family and communal living in 2016 stood at 97.8 points, down from the standard index of 100 ten years ago in 2006.

Of the total 12 categories that were analyzed, the index for family and communal living was the only index that fell from ten years ago.

The family and communal living index is evaluated based on the satisfaction of family ties, family type, social relationships, and participation in local and civil societies.

If the level of family ties, social belonging and participation is strong, the index rises. However, if the number of single-parent families, single elderly homes and suicide rates go up, the index falls.

The indices for housing (103.7), employment and salary (104.5), and health (105.8) all went up compared to 2006, but the level of improvement was modest.

The one category that improved significantly was the safety sector (128.9).

As the number of crimes and accidents in society have fallen over the years, evaluation of the safety sector within society has indicated improvement.

Meanwhile, the categories of education (120.6), income and consumption (118.1) and social welfare (116.5) also improved significantly on a relative scale.
