SEOUL, March 20 (Korea Bizwire) — The government and academia will jointly conduct a three-dimensional observation of pollutants such as yellow dust and fine dust flowing into South Korea.
The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) said Thursday it will conduct a three-dimensional observation of air quality in the West Sea to analyze incoming air pollutants to South Korea.
The state weather agency will use aircraft, ships, ground and satellite measuring networks on four occasions until Jun. 5 off the coast of Incheon and Mokpo. The new project is called the ‘YES-AQ (YEllow Sea-Air Quality) Campaign.’
Through the three-dimensional data, researchers will analyze the characteristics and effects of substances in the West Sea, where air pollutants such as yellow dust and fine dust from neighboring countries are mostly introduced to South Korea.
Eight organizations, including the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences, will participate to mobilize a total of 63 types of weather observation equipment and air quality measuring equipment, the KMA explained.
The observation results analyze the characteristics of long-distance mobile aerosols flowing into the country and are used to improve the prediction of yellow dust.
The results will also be provided as basic data for establishing air quality policies related to yellow dust.
Based on the observations, “observation data workshops” and “observation results analysis workshops” will be held in August and November, respectively.
