HAM-AN, Sept. 3 (Korea Bizwire) – The third Gangju Sunflower Festival is coming up, as it will be held for three days starting on September 5.
Residents of five villages including Gangju, Munhyun, Daepyung, Hwangsa and Nesong are hosting the festival together.
The region is famous for its sunflowers. Local residents started planting sunflowers a few years ago when factories both big and small started to enter the area. The villagers planted the seeds anticipating that the yellow flowers would brighten their village.
As people from all over the nation started visiting Gangju to see the sunflowers, the villages nearby started to plant sunflowers as well.
Various events will occur at the festival other than just the enjoyment of the sunflowers, including performances of traditional Korean music, the reenactment of a colorfully decorated bier, and singing contests, to name a few.
In addition to the flowers, murals drawn on the walls of the villages are also a popular tourist attraction.
