SEOUL, May 16 (Korea Bizwire) – Amid the recent controversy surrounding humidifier sterilizers, sales of environmentally-friendly products are soaring. Anxious consumers skeptical of products containing chemicals are looking for potentially healthier alternatives.
According to Ticket Monster, an e-commerce website, sales of environmentally-friendly detergents increased by 30 percent in the period from April 25 to May 10 compared to previous month (March 25 – April 10).
Sales of baking soda increased by 26 percent, vegetable-based kitchen detergents by 30 percent, Italian organic-certified laundry and kitchen detergents by 85 percent, and domestic-certified natural organic detergents by 41 percent.
Another e-commerce platform, Auction, also saw a rise in sales of natural and eco-friendly products.
Auction reported that sales of baking soda and citric acid jumped by 60 percent year-over-year in the period from April 18 to May 12. Sales of environmentally-friendly laundry detergents increased by 166 percent, natural kitchen detergents by 99 percent, eco-friendly baby bottle detergents by 18 percent, and homemade soap by 15 percent.
Baking soda, citric acid, and sodium carbonate are known substitutes for existing detergents and deodorants. Online shopping malls are offering special bundles including the three to meet consumer demand.
