SEOUL, June 12 (Korea Bizwire) — Samsung Electronics Co. is set to revolutionize the tech landscape with its upcoming customized artificial intelligence (AI) services.
With a focus on enhancing knowledge search, translation, summarization, and organizing meeting minutes, the company plans to introduce these innovative features as early as this year.
According to industry insiders, Samsung’s Device Solution (DS) division, which oversees its chip business, is gearing up to launch its own large language model (LLM) at the ChatGPT 3.5 level or higher within the next year.
Kyung Kye-hyun, CEO and president of the DS division, emphasized the transformative potential of generative AI during a recent lecture, expressing his belief that it could revolutionize the company’s operations.
He further revealed that the company is actively working to introduce customized AI through partnerships with specialized domestic firms.
Samsung’ DS division has outlined a comprehensive roadmap for its AI services. It plans to roll out a basic service in December, followed by a specialized search service featuring company-specific knowledge in February of next year.
These services aim to provide robust support across nine critical areas, including automated response to business processes, specialized knowledge search in areas such as process, design, and manufacturing, summarization of manufacturing and process data, translation, document creation, recording and summarization of meeting minutes, market and company analysis, code generation and review, and customer voice (VOC) response.
During a lecture at Yonsei University on Friday, Kyung referred to ChatGPT as an exceptional intellectual asset, expressing a desire to incorporate it into their operations starting next year.
This implies that Samsung plans to leverage ChatGPT for tasks like translation and document summarization.
The decision to introduce customized AI solutions aligns with the surging demand for generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, for tasks like translation and document summarization.
It also addresses concerns over security and confidentiality that arise from the widespread use of generative AI.
By limiting reliance on external generative AI, such as ChatGPT, Samsung aims to safeguard sensitive information while promoting efficient work practices through its proprietary AI offerings.
Notably, the DS division has already implemented measures to mitigate potential misuse of ChatGPT.
In March, instances of abuse, including the uploading of internal email content and the entry of complete internal source code, prompted the division to restrict character usage when employing ChatGPT.
Similarly, the Device eXperience (DX) division, responsible for home appliances and smartphones, has imposed a ban on the use of generative AI on internal PCs since May.
As an alternative approach, the DX division is actively developing its own AI tools to facilitate translation, document summarization, and software development.
While a specific timeline for development and implementation has yet to be finalized, the division is committed to enhancing its capabilities in these areas.
In an Instagram post, Kyung reflected on the significant attention generative AI has garnered, stating that the company is on the precipice of even more substantial changes than those brought about by the development of PCs, the internet, and smartphones.
