SEOUL, May 14 (Korea Bizwire) — Amidst the tranquil surroundings of Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway, the 51st Coming of Age Day celebration unfolded on a glorious Sunday afternoon, just a day before the much-anticipated May 15th extravaganza.
For decades, Seoul has been observing this momentous occasion every May with a grand revival of the age-old coming-of-age ceremony.
The first ceremony of the gwanhonsangje, known as the traditional coming-of-age ceremony, marks a crucial milestone in a person’s life. Gwanhonsangje, which comprises four significant rituals, including coming-of-age ceremonies, weddings, funerals, and other rituals, holds immense significance in Korean culture.
The celebratory event featured a host of cultural programs, including crafting exquisite coming-of-age keychains, immersing in the diverse world coming-of-age cultures, and making eco-bags, all adding to the jubilant spirit of the occasion.
The revelries of the week-long celebration continue with 21 youth facilities in Seoul presenting an array of diverse coming-of-age programs from May 14 to May 20.
