SEOUL, May 24 (Korea Bizwire) – Gangnam District in Seoul has rolled out an innovative “Training for All” program to bolster its employees’ disaster response capabilities after three months of development, officials announced on May 23.

The distinctive program breaks down emergency procedures from initial incident to recovery into 25 steps, presenting them through an interactive, storyboard game format.

Teams of eight participants take on roles within a disaster response headquarters taskforce. As scenarios progress through mission cards, players move game pieces according to their assigned responsibilities.

Participants experience the full sequence from deploying to the site of an emergency, relaying information, transporting casualties to hospitals, evacuating displaced residents, compiling status reports, conducting media briefings and overseeing recovery efforts. Quizzes on essential disaster preparedness knowledge are interspersed to enhance engagement.

At a disaster safety workshop attended by some 150 staff members on May 13, where the program debuted, employees expressed high satisfaction levels, according to the district office.

Gangnam plans to disseminate the training tool for use by other local governments.

“Emergency response processes are critical knowledge for civil servants,” said Cho Sung-myung, head of the district. “We will continue strengthening our staff’s readiness to safeguard residents in the face of unexpected disasters.”
