SEOUL, Korea, Sep 13 (Korea Bizwire) – Ban Seung-ho, the principal of Jung-hwa High School in northeastern Seoul under the jurisdiction of the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, has published his second single album “People on the Road,” following the first one “Let’s Begin again” three years ago. He said he is doing it to give hopes and dreams to youngsters feeling alienated and there is no one around to listen to them.
In the title song “People on the Road” in the latest album, he sings for people distressed over difficult relationship to tell them they can always mend the fences. The easy-to-sing-along song with cheerful melody is accompanied with guitar play. The guitar was played by Chung Yoo-jong, the guitarist for vocal group “Daybreak” famous for winning KBS-TV’s America’s Got Talent-like singing contest program “Memorable Tunes.”
The second song “Come to Me” in the album is about lost youths, their parents agonizing over their children’s wandering, and teachers worrying about them. The main message of the song is just insist on being yourself and someday everyone around you will see true you.
Principal Ban, nicknamed as the “Singing Principal,” always steps on the stage in all school occasions such as festivals, parent-teacher conferences, and teachers’ meetings. He tries to be an accessible principal to the students, walking around the school with his trademark bow tie on. He said his fame as a singer helps a lot in making his students come to his office without hesitation. As a result, he was given a special award from the Ministry of Education for preventing school violence this year.
Mr. Ban said, “School violence prevention or encouraging creative thinking can never come from cookie cutter-style education. Only when you allow the kids to be themselves and to think and say without worrying about what their teachers and parents would think about them, can you see the real flowering of creativeness.” “I hope my music album could give a chance for our youngsters to think about what they really want to do with their lives,” he added.
