TAEBAEK, Nov. 16 (Korea Bizwire) — An increasing number of birds are being fatally wounded after running into a transparent soundproof wall installed in Taebaek, Gangwon Province.
The transparent wall, which is 180 meters in length and between 2 and 3 meters in height, was built in 2018, dividing the entrance to an industrial complex and the neighboring village.
The industrial complex is surrounded by a forest, and a river is located across the village, which means that the wall prevents birds from accessing the water.
Birds have eyes on each side of the head, making it difficult for them to recognize transparent walls.
The Ministry of Environment, in a study between December 2017 and September 2018, reported at least 8 million birds in the country die due to collisions every year.
