SEOUL, April 7 (Korea Bizwire) — Korea East-West Power Co. (EWP), a wholly owned subsidiary of state-run utility Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO), said Monday it will use trees damaged by a massive forest fire in Gangwon Province last year as eco-friendly fuel.
A few days ago, EWP reached an agreement with the National Forestry Cooperation Federation to phase in 10,000 tons of wood chips from trees damaged in the Gangwon Province wildfire.
Furthermore, it plans to gradually expand the supply of wood chips.
Officials say that the use of damaged trees will help prevent secondary damage from forest fires, recycle forest resources, and create social value such as new income sources for local communities.
The additional revenue from the project will be returned to the community through the creation of corporate forests, the installation of wind power street lamps, and solar energy benches.
