WANDO, May 7 (Korea Bizwire) — Wando County designated May 8, Parents’ Day, as Sea Mustard Eating Day, and will hold a ceremony celebrating the designation on May 8.
The county came up with the idea to celebrate Parents’ Day, in a nod to past traditions where mothers ate sea mustard soup right after giving birth.
The ceremony will include various stage performances and experience-based events such as a sea mustard rice ball cooking class, a tasting of sea mustard soup with Wando-produced flatfish and the sharing of carnation corsages made with sea mustard.
The sea mustard corsages will be distributed to every visitor.
Wando harvests 46 percent of Korea’s sea mustard, and Wando farmers currently produce a variety of sea mustard products.
