SEJONG, July 13 (Korea Bizwire) — Achievements of volunteer services in response to the outbreak of COVID-19 will be documented in a white paper that will serve as a manual for effective guidelines in any contingency plans for future outbreaks.
In total, 662,959 people volunteered — ranging from basic assistance to quarantine activities, giving aid to the underprivileged, to lending help to manufacturing and sales of cotton masks (2.73 million masks were produced through this process) — from January 20 through June 23 this year.
The government set up a committee to promote volunteering last Friday and exchanged ideas on how best to handle any future crisis. The committee will compile records on volunteer work and publish them in a white paper.
The committee plans to expand new kinds of volunteering work in the near future, that include volunteering at drive-through markets and quarantine on public transportation. And it will continue to conduct public awareness campaigns to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
