SEOUL, Oct. 30 (Korea Bizwire) — E-Mart Inc. revealed yesterday that it will be adopting eco-friendly packaging that would allow plastic containers belonging to its own brand products to be recycled with ease.
Colored plastic bottles and caps will be replaced with colorless plastic. In addition, product labels will be made easier to remove.
E-Mart plans to adopt the eco-friendly packaging for more than 100 products brands under its name.
Meanwhile, the retail giant also announced separate plans to discontinue offering plastic bags at its outlets. Starting in November, the company will replace plastic and paper bags with nonwoven fabric baskets.
E-Mart expects to save more than 2 million disposable shopping bags each year by implementing the measure.
Shinsegae Department Store, controlled by the same family as E-Mart, will also stop offering plastic shopping bags at its supermarkets starting next month.
