SEOUL, Dec. 23 (Korea Bizwire) — The top 100 South Koreans owning the largest number of homes have purchased close to 2,000 more homes in the last 12 months, data showed Thursday.
Rep. Kim Hoi-jae of the Democratic Party referred to a Statistics Korea report indicating that the top 100 home owners owned 22,582 residences as of November of last year, an increase of 9.1 percent from the previous year.
Applying the posted price set on January 1, the total value of the homes reached 2.95 trillion won (US$2.39 billion), up 17 percent from the previous year.
Each person owned 226 homes on average, with average housing assets of 29.5 billion won.
Compared to 12 months ago, each person owned 19 more homes and held 4.3 billion won more in assets.
The number of homes owned by the top 100 grew from 17,244 in 2016, jumping by 31 percent in five years.
The real estate assets grew in value from 1.5 trillion won, almost doubling over the same period.
