SEOUL, April 28 (Korea Bizwire) — Inside a lecture hall at Inha University in Incheon on April 19, students brought out their laptops without hesitation, opened a new session in ChatGPT, and began typing in the questions set forth in their mid-term examination.
The university said that it had conducted the country’s first open ChatGPT test. However, students were not allowed to copy the answers provided by ChatGPT word for word.
Examinees said that ChatGPT still has its limitations in providing perfect answers, but it was still useful.
“I’ve always thought about looking for the right answer. Trying out ChatGPT, I realized that asking the right question is also very important,” said 25-year-old student Lim Seo-hyeon, one of the examinees.
“I still have trouble believing what ChatGPT tells me, so I used it only to get some ideas.”
With the advent of ChatGPT and generative artificial intelligence (AI) that learns from massive data sets to imitate the way humans use them to create new data, universities are stepping up to incorporate them into their curricula.
Incheon National University recently came up with guidelines on the use of ChatGPT to prevent students from abusing the AI platform.
Yonsei University and Korea University have also published study guidelines for various AI platforms, including ChatGPT, and distributed them to students.
Yonsei University also instructed students to review the results of utilizing ChatGPT themselves.
“Now is the era of asking the right question. Students are now charged with the task of utilizing AI platforms and checking the facts,” said Jeon Tae-jun, a biotechnology professor at Inha University.
