SEOUL, Dec.17 (Korea Bizwire) – Daum Kakao, the operator of Kakao Taxi, has reported that the accumulated number of Kakao Taxi calls exceeded 50 million on December 13.
According to company officials, the Kakao Taxi service that started on March 31 had received one million calls only a month and a half after its launch. The number of calls since then has increased exponentially. The number of registered taxi drivers reached 190,000, which is nearly 70 percent of the total number of licensed taxis in the country.
“At first, people were skeptical. Who would call a taxi through an app when there are so many cabs on the street? But now, the phrase ‘call a Kakao Taxi’ has become quite a natural thing,” said company officials, commenting on the changes that have occurred since the application was launched.
Kakao is planning to provide better service to its customers, especially during the holiday season. The company plans to concentrate on advancing the quality of its service, and encourage drivers to receive calls from users.
Based on the experience of operating Kakao Taxi, Kakao launched a new sevice called ‘Kakao Taxi Black’ on November 3.
Kakao Taxi Black operates 100 3,000cc cars, including Mercedes-Benz E Class vehicles. Officials say that the number of calls and sales are both showing stable growth.
Kakao plans to add reservation options and increase the number of cars, as well as expand payment methods and available areas during the first half of 2016.
