SEOUL, Aug. 4 (Korea Bizwire) — The Ministry of Environment said Thursday it will issue an advance notice for the revision of the enforcement ordinance and regulation of the Waste Management Act, which will introduce provisions for additional recycling categories and criteria for various items, including coffee grounds and waste cooking oil.
The revised regulations are set to take effect as early as the end of this year.
Coffee grounds will be newly eligible for recycling in the production of rubber, textiles, synthetic resin products, chemical materials, and other related products.
Furthermore, the revision will create a new recycling category, allowing carbon dioxide capture materials to be utilized in nonmetallic minerals like aggregates, glass, cement, and pulp and paper products.
Recycling of waste bricks, blocks, and roof tiles will be made possible through repair and mending.
Moreover, a new set of recycling criteria will pave the way for converting waste cooking oil into bio-heavy oil.
