SEOUL, Sep. 24 (Korea Bizwire) — The Seoul Foundation of Arts and Culture plans to hold an exhibition “Evolution of Play” on interactive media art at Seoul Art Space Geumcheon from October 1 to 15.
The exhibition displays artworks created by winners of a contest to encourage interactive art works representing the evolution of play in March. The evolution of play refers to making our daily lives more playful by participating in game-like activities every day.
For example, the Seoul Metropolitan city government installed a flight of steps at the Seoul City Hall building which make piano key sounds when one goes up or down the stairs.
A total of five works which won the contest will be exhibited. The first piece is Artificial Nature made by Jiharu, which let audiences raise virtual creatures living on sands. The creatures grow in different ways depending on the shape of sands participants change.
Another work is Leaf created by Haibeu. When an observer types in a message on a touch board in front of a tree, the message prints from a printer installed at the end of its branch. Older messages fall to the ground as real leaves do so.
Sound of Breath devised by Kang Yu-jin and Lee Su-yeon lets spectators feel the wind. When a person blows her breath into the receptor, trees and copper pipes sway to make sounds.
Augmented Pinballs designed by 464 utilizes the operation principle of pinballs. People can play pinballs with virtual balls on a real ground, making them enjoy the imaginary world and the reality at the same time.
The last work of art is Lines made by Kim Eun-su, which is for people walking on the dark street. When one passes a murky passageway, a string of luminous materials are lit for him.
